What is DBT?
Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) is a form of psychotherapy primarily used to manage personality disorders by promoting acceptance and awareness.
There is strong evidence for its effectiveness in treating mood disorders and suicidal ideation.
Patients undertaking a course of DBT are encouraged to be mindful of powerful emotions, accept the essence of change, tolerate distress, and regulate emotional changes.
For DBT to be successful, there must be a strong bond of trust between the therapist and the patient.
In most circumstances, DBT takes around six months to a year to be effective.
Each individual responds differently to a course of DBT, but there is strong evidence that indicates that most patients can manage disorder-related behaviours long after treatment.
How can MAPP help?
At MAPP Psychology, we understand that every person faces unique problems that are difficult to define.
One of the major priorities has been to create a welcoming environment so that you can start a form of therapeutic intervention without any unnecessary stress.
Whether you are new to therapy or have existing experience with counselling services, you can be assured that we are here to support you through your journey.
After initial assessments and a conversation with some of our colleagues, you will be offered a therapeutic intervention that directly matches with your needs.
The services we offer will equip you with the right tools to maintain an improved state of wellbeing.
Once you have completed your treatment at MAPP Psychology, you will understand how to make positive decisions for yourself and your loved ones.
What results can you expect?
If you are advised to take a course of DBT, you will learn to accept who you are and the challenges you face. The decision you make and how you regulate your behaviours will improve throughout the programme.
DBT is effective in treating anyone with drug and alcohol problems, compulsive disorders, and patients who self-harm. If these problems impact your life, then it’s the right time to seek out psychological intervention.
Taking the first step towards therapy is the hardest, and at MAPP Psychology, we acknowledge the size of this challenge. Not only will you be supported on the path to recovery, but you will also be encouraged to live a healthier life.
Our mission is to work closely with our patients no matter how difficult their problems may seem, and we are ready to accept you into one of our treatment programmes.
The MAPP approach to therapy
Each of our psychologists is fully trained and qualified, bringing a wealth of experience to the table.
They take the time to really listen, getting to know you and what you're going through, so they can shape an approach that actually fits your life - not a generic one-size-fits-all model.
They will work with you to make practical real life changes that help you move into a happier, healthier place.
Sessions start at £95 with a fully trained therapist and £130 with one of our fully qualified expert psychologists.
