What is OCD?

  • Today, eating disorders are associated with both men and women. Issues related to body image may be at the root of an eating disorder, and how we view ourselves is often associated with how we eat food.

  • Different eating disorders can impact how a person interacts with food daily.

  • Some people may have experience with orthorexia, which is the term to describe an obsession with eating healthy food. Disorders like orthorexia can result in rigid dieting and a fixation on certain food groups.

  • In contrast, some individuals eat compulsively to deal with feelings of guilt. This may lead to gorging habits that only reinforce the initial anxieties, which resulted in the initial compulsion to eat.

  • There are many forms of eating disorder and they all relate to unhealthy behaviours related to food.

How can MAPP help?

  • Developing the proper management strategies and coping mechanisms for eating disorders can take time, but our professionally trained therapists can help you begin your journey.

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Person-Centred Therapy (PCT), and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) are some of the forms of intervention we specialise in.

  • Once you begin working alongside Psychology Scotland, we can help identify the root causes and triggers for your eating disorder before developing the right treatment plan.

What results can you expect?

  • As a result of therapeutic treatment for eating disorders, you will learn to recognise compulsive behaviours, allowing you to manage them more easily.

  • Over the course of therapy, your relationship with food will change. And further, how you perceive yourself in comparison to others will improve.

  • It may feel impossible at first to open up about eating disorders, but we can help you start making the necessary changes to give you a different outlook on food and your body.

The MAPP approach to therapy

Each of our psychologists is fully trained and qualified, bringing a wealth of experience to the table.

They take the time to really listen, getting to know you and what you're going through, so they can shape an approach that actually fits your life - not a generic one-size-fits-all model.

They will work with you to make practical real life changes that help you move into a happier, healthier place.

Sessions start at £95 with a fully trained therapist and £130 with one of our fully qualified expert psychologists.
