What is Gestalt Therapy?
Gestalt Therapy was developed in the 40s and 50s with a focus on personal responsibility.
It analyses how an individual experiences the world in the present moment and encourages them to look at the big picture, considering the self in decision making.
Rather than facilitate the healing process, Gestalt Therapy stresses the importance of presence.
How the therapist engages with their patient and how they get them to focus on the present moment, is entirely at the discretion of the professional.
Techniques often associated with Gestalt Therapy include the therapist asking the patient to imagine the presence of a parent or a manager in the room.
Meditation techniques are also associated with Gestalt.
The intended results of Gestalt Therapy are to engage the patient with selfhood and the concept of choice.
How can MAPP help?
Understanding how much impact you have in the world can be daunting. It’s difficult to come to terms with the choices you have in the present moment because it can put pressure on your present situation.
Whether you are new to therapy or have existing experience with psychological counselling, MAPP Psychology is here to make the therapeutic journey rewarding and enjoyable.
In addition to the counselling process, we want to provide you with the tools to build a better life long after you have left therapy.
We understand that you will face difficulties in the future, and we offer a service that will equip you with the right tools to deal with these challenges.
What results can you expect?
Undertaking Gestalt Therapy will help provide clarity when making present decisions.
If you’re aware of your emotional state of being and the environment they exist in, then you can begin to make reasonable choices that improve your wellbeing.
It is often used for assertiveness training and treating post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
If these are issues that you are familiar with, then we are here to help you start the therapeutic process.
Taking the first step toward counselling is often the hardest. MAPP Psychology will support you through your journey and help you make better decisions for yourself and your loved ones. We’re ready to work alongside you for now and in the future.
At MAPP, therapy starts with you.
Your psychologist takes the time to listen, then builds a plan around your goals and circumstances.
What makes that possible is the depth & range of training and experience our doctors of psychology bring to the table. Our psychologists are trained in a broad span of therapy modalities, from CBT and ACT to compassion-focused therapy, person-centred therapy and everything in between.
We fit the approach to you, not you to the approach, and regular check-ins keep it working as your needs change.
We're committed to giving you the support and tools you need to build towards a happier, healthier life.
