What is social anxiety?

  • Unlike shyness, social anxiety is a persistent fear of communicating with other people.

  • Whether it’s friends, family members, or work colleagues, social anxiety inhibits the ability to communicate.

  • People with social anxiety often avoid social interactions to the point where they may develop phobias. Agoraphobia, the irrational fear of entering crowded places, is often connected with social anxiety.

  • In addition to this, someone with social anxiety may experience physical symptoms - trembling, sweating, and nausea may appear when someone with social anxiety is confronted with an unfamiliar interaction.

How can MAPP help?

  • We understand that approaching therapy can be particularly difficult when you have a form of social anxiety.

  • At MAPP we have prioritised creating a safe and comfortable environment to minimise any anxiety you may feel and allow you to feel relaxed and supported.

  • We will work with you to develop an understanding of the root causes and triggers of your social anxiety, before determining the best form of therapy to help you move into a better space.

  • This could involve an integrative form of therapy to help you acknowledge the roots of your anxiety, and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to help you build the tools to manage your key day to day challenges.

What results can you expect?

  • Whatever the therapeutic path we work on together, you will be building the skills to manage social situations more effectively and with lower levels of anxiety.

  • We will work with you to become more open to friendships and relationships. As you become more receptive, your sense of self will increase, and so will your motivation.

  • Taking the first step toward professional help is often the hardest, but we are ready to support you along the road to a better lifestyle.

The MAPP approach to therapy

Each of our psychologists is fully trained and qualified, bringing a wealth of experience to the table.

They take the time to really listen, getting to know you and what you're going through, so they can shape an approach that actually fits your life - not a generic one-size-fits-all model.

They will work with you to make practical real life changes that help you move into a happier, healthier place.

Sessions start at £95 with a fully trained therapist and £130 with one of our fully qualified expert psychologists.
